Myrtle Beach: the cheapest big golf trip in America

Myrtle Beach's package market does the work for you. Legends Golf & Resort, for example, publishes 3-night, 4-round packages — a 2-bedroom villa for four golfers, green fees, carts and taxes — at $483 per person from mid-November through December 2026 and $492 in January 2027, rising to $837 in peak spring. Barefoot Resort publishes a fall–winter 3-night, 4-round package at $287–$449 per person, and the area's golf marketing group puts the typical 3-night, 4-round spend at $450–$700+ per golfer.

  • Package (3 nights, 4 rounds, golf, carts, taxes): about $290–$840 by season
  • Food and drinks: about $250–$450
  • Shared ground transport: about $45–$90
  • Estimated all-in: about $850–$1,400 per person

Ocean City, Maryland: the Mid-Atlantic value trip

Ocean City's golf packages are priced for drive-in groups. The Ruark 3 Play package — two nights at a Best Western, three rounds at Rum Pointe, Man O'War and Nutters Crossing, breakfast, green fees, carts and taxes — starts at $315 per person on September weekdays and $250 on October weekdays, double occupancy. Add a third night and fourth round and most groups stay near $1,000 all-in.

Alabama's Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail

The RTJ Trail is 26 championship public courses at 11 sites, built for road trips. Its fall 2026 special starts at $115 per person per day for a round with cart and range balls ($190 at Ross Bridge), and the unlimited-golf version starts at $155 per day — so a 36-hole day costs little more than 18. For a 3-night trip, pair two sites — Grand National and Capitol Hill, or Oxmoor Valley and Ross Bridge — and stay at Trail-side hotels or a lake house.

  • Golf: 4 rounds at $115–$190 per day, or one unlimited day at $155+
  • Lodging: 3 nights, about $90–$125 per person per night, double occupancy
  • Estimated all-in: about $1,100–$1,450 per person

Gulf Shores & Orange Beach and St. George

Gulf Shores and Orange Beach keep costs down with big beach houses split eight or ten ways and reasonably priced golf. Kiva Dunes, the headliner, uses dynamic pricing — recent 18-hole rates have run around $100–$130 — and Gulf State Park adds a strong value round near the beach.

St. George, Utah, is the budget desert trip. Sand Hollow's Championship course, with its cliff-edge back nine, publishes peak rates around $225–$295 from February through May but drops to about $130–$175 from October through January, and it takes reservations up to 180 days ahead. Rental homes are plentiful, and Zion National Park is about an hour away for a rest day.

Pinehurst for under $1,500 — in winter

Yes, really. From November 19, 2026 through February 17, 2027, Pine Needles is $145–$155, Mid Pines $125–$135, and Southern Pines Golf Club was $105–$115 last winter. Four rounds plus three nights in a shared Southern Pines rental lands around $1,100–$1,450 per person. Want No. 2? Pinehurst Resort's winter Donald Ross package is $880 per person for 2 nights and 3 rounds with breakfast and dinner, plus the $250 No. 2 premium, tax and the resort service charge — tight, but possible near $1,500.

Rental home vs. package: the math

Packages win when lodging is cheap per room and golf is bundled at a discount — Myrtle Beach and Ocean City are the clearest examples. A rental home wins when the group is eight or more and wants to stay together. Run the numbers like this:

Example: group of 8, 3 nights
ItemRental home + public tee timesStay-and-play package
Lodging4-bedroom home at $600/night × 3 = $1,800 + ~15% fees and tax = $2,070 → about $260 per golferIncluded — compare against the package's no-golf room rate
Golf4 rounds at public rates, booked yourselvesIncluded, often with discounted replays
BreakfastCook at the houseSometimes included
Best when8+ golfers, mixed course list, one shared living roomGroups of 4–8, resort-only courses, simplest logistics

Seven ways to cut the cost without cutting the fun

  • Go in the shoulder season — the same course can cost half as much a few weeks outside peak
  • Play weekdays: many courses price Monday–Wednesday below Thursday–Sunday
  • Use replay and unlimited-golf rates for a second round the same day
  • Ask for package extras: free fourth rounds, breakfast and range balls are common
  • Pick one splurge round and surround it with value courses
  • Share one big rental vehicle and cook breakfast at the house
  • Collect deposits early so you can lock group rates before they rise

Common questions

What is the cheapest golf trip in the U.S.?

Myrtle Beach. Published 3-night, 4-round packages including lodging, green fees, carts and taxes start around $290–$480 per person in late fall and winter, and most groups spend about $850–$1,300 all-in before airfare.

Can you do a golf trip for under $1,000 per person?

Yes — a 3-night trip to Myrtle Beach or Ocean City outside peak weeks can come in under $1,000 per person including food, if the group shares condos and plays value courses.

Are golf packages cheaper than booking yourself?

Usually, in package-heavy markets like Myrtle Beach and Ocean City. For groups of eight or more who want a big rental home, booking lodging and tee times separately can be cheaper.

When are golf trip packages cheapest?

Outside each destination's peak season: late fall and winter for the Carolinas and Mid-Atlantic, summer and early winter for the desert, and weekdays everywhere.
